The Senator John Heinz Pittsburgh Regional History Center, the largest museum dedicated to history in Pennsylvania and a Smithsonian Affiliate, is housed in a 200,000 square foot-7-story building near Pittsburgh 's downtown Cultural District. The History Center includes a Museum featuring national and regional exhibitions; a Library & Archives housing one of the nation's largest corporate collections which includes: Alcoa, H. J. Heinz Company, Westinghouse, Mellon Financial, US Steel& Gulf Corporation; The Sebastian Mueller Education Center ; and, the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum.
The History Center is run by the Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania which was established in 1897 and is the oldest cultural organization in Pittsburgh . Currently, the History Center , with an annual budget of approximately $4.5 million serves some 130,000 visitors annually.
Services of A.L. Brourman Associates, Inc. were retained in1990 to conduct a $22 million capital campaign to build a new History Center . Since that time, over $ 70 million dollars has been raised under A. L. Brourman Associates' counsel to: build the History Center and its new Smithsonian wing; a $15 million endowment; and, support operations and special projects. Additionally, services included organizational development to strengthen the board, operations, government relations, membership and special events. Public Relations and Marketing services were also provided during its early transitional years. In 1992, A. L. Brourman Associates launched the History Makers Awards Dinner which recognizes people from Western Pennsylvania who have made history in the nation and the world. Over the years, this benefit event has raised well over $1.5 million for the History Center 's educational programs and positioned the History Center as one of Pittsburgh 's leading cultural and educational institutions. A. L. Brourman Associates Inc. continues to provide counsel fundraising and organizational development counsel for the History Center .
